Journeying to Jesus
Lessons from the magi.
Faith

Happy new year to all, and happy ninth day of Christmas! The count continues as we march our way into Epiphany on January 6, 2026. This week marks the final visio divina reflection of this series, with Karen Guzmán inviting us to meditate on an Italian mosaic depicting the three magi. Their journey takes them to a holy place and sends them back into the world to share their findings. How might we imitate the magi’s journeys in our own lives?
“The wise men from the East remind us that God initiates. He reveals himself. He calls people to seek him and promises to be found by those who do. And they tell us that, regardless of the cost, the journey to God is worth it.”
We’ve turned the calendar page into 2026 and into a new season for many of us — a new semester, a new fiscal year, a new opportunity for thriving. Whether or not you enjoy making new year’s resolution, let us encourage you to consider them carefully — perhaps all month long — before settling down with your new practices. This period of freshness brings a chance to receive God’s grace and kindness, watching for invitations to grow rather than demands for self-improvement. What gentle nudges might you be sensing here, at the beginning of this new year?
“If you, like me, are a human in need of help remembering the things you most deeply desire, I have good news for you! God is gracious. He gives us multiple beginnings every year, and we can always find a fresh opportunity for a restart. ”
